The Visual Arts curriculum provides Field students with the opportunity to imagine and create a variety of works unlike those created by any other person. Students learn to sharply observe the world around them and express themselves in different modes to further discover their own possibilities. Students' intellectual capacities are broadened and their creativity enhance through the study of art. Students learn that art preserves history and civilizations long extinct. Students also learn about other cultures through the study of art, and what role art plays in other cultures. Students are encouraged to try a wide variety of materials and techniques, and they use the inquiry based method of discovery in art.
The study of art is essential for full human development by developing higher level thinking skills through problem solving, evaluation, creativity, visual thinking, synthesis and perseverance.
In addition to the weekly Art program, students may enroll in the Art Club which meets before school once a week, on a monthly basis. Several local art shows sponsored by the Curtis Center for the Arts, the LPS Education Service Center, and Bemis Library Art Show, feature many pieces created by our talented students here at Field.
