Kindergartners at Eugene Field School are eager, enthusiastic, and engaged learners. We provide exciting experiences that meet our students need and stimulate learning in all developmental areas - physical, social, emotional, and intellectual.
Children are viewed as unique persons with their own personal timeline of growth and development. Different levels of ability, development, and learning styles are experienced, accepted, and used to design appropriate activities.
It is our belief that children learn by doing. Much learning about math, science, social studies, health, and literacy are integrated through meaningful activities and real objects. Literacy instruction is differentiated through small-guided reading groups. Children are taught writing during small group and whole class activities.
We use Everyday Math as our primary program for math instruction. Math concepts and skills are taught through the exploration of manipulatives, games, and hands on activities.
A Eugene Field kindergartner experiences Physical Education, Music, Spanish, and Art each week. As part of an IB primary years program our students inquire into six different units of study. These include personal timeline, families, celebrations and traditions, living and non-living, the changing seasons, and patriotic symbols.
Our program sends home monthly newsletters to inform parents of classroom activities and school functions. Parents are welcome and encouraged to volunteer in their child's classroom.
Eugene Field Kindergartners are excited about learning and their classroom experiences. Please schedule a visit to a kindergarten classroom to see what all the excitement is about.
